The seeds are germinated in a large, heated, height-adjustable Vitopod propagator. The propagator has sensitive heat adjustments accurate to 1 degree. The propagator is situated inside a grow tent in my studio. Control of heat and light is both within the propagator and the grow tent.
Sunday December 5th: Each seed is geminated in a 13 cm (5 inch) diameter pots containing a mixed soil that is slightly acidic (pH 6.2). Each seed is placed about 1 inch into the soil and then covered over. The soil is fairly wet when the seeds are planted but no further watering is necessary until the seed breaks the surface of the soil. The soil is mixed with a mall amount of sand to help with drainage. Moringa Oleifera trees do not like wet soils around their root systems. Moringa Oleifera do need light in their germination.
The propagator was set at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit) at the soil surface level.
First shoots are seen on Saturday December 11th 2010
